Not everyone working with the Magento platform gets to be an official Magento Solution Partner. But what does being a ‘solution partner’ mean? And why should you care?
THE CAKES, COOKIES AND CRAFTS CASE STUDY
You sell everything imaginable for baking and decorating the perfect cakes and cookies. From cutters to icing nozzles, candles to tins the sheer variety is bewildering. You need a site that helps make sense of it all. You need to make a lot of products easy to navigate. You want to make buying really, really simple. And you want something that sorts the special offer discounts, reward points and differing VAT requirements automatically.
That’s what Cakes, Cookies and Crafts asked for. What quickly became apparent was that what they wanted didn’t exist yet.
THE SOLUTION BIT
It’s a clever platform, Magento. We love it because of its almost limitless versatility – the power to make it do whatever you need it to. But at the outset the platform is just that, a base onto which you bolt and tweak and create and invent to make it do the things you need.
This was the biggest customisation of a Magento site we’d ever undertaken. They were customisations to provide solutions – to make the site do the things Cakes, Cookies and Crafts needed.
They involved creating a mega menu to make everything available from the homepage. We added an AJAX add to cart system, giving customers the speed of on-screen ordering with no pinging between shopping cart and ‘back to shop’ pages. We integrated WordPress recipe and advice pages and transformed the database to place products in multiple categories while retaining the same URL (to aid SEO).
MAKING MORE OF MAGENTO
That’s what being a Magento Solution Partner means. It’s the ability to give our clients precisely the website they need by doing things with the platform that haven’t been done before.
It’s the difference between getting almost what you want, and getting exactly what you want.
