Lancaster University’s Religion and Society Research Programme “stimulates collaborative research across the arts, humanities and social sciences. It informs public debate and advances understanding of religion in a complex world.”* The Programme needed a website that would promote its work and help it achieve its goals.

The Brief
The Religion and Society Research Programme wanted a website that would function as an effective communication tool. With information at its heart, the website needed to be well presented and promote the Programme’s funded research in a clear, sensible way. Users would be from a wide range of social and religious backgrounds so it was essential the site be easy to use and sensitive to the beliefs of all those using it.

The Solution
Planning is an essential part of every NuBlue project, but for one involving such a diverse user group - and such a wealth of information - it was crucial to structure the project effectively and include input from all key parties. The content would need to be logically ordered to make navigation swift, simple and intuitive and we planned a sitemap that would help users find information fast. The design would be clean and simple to ensure the information and content remained the key focus of the website.

The Result
The finished website balances compelling yet understated design with clear, well presented information and content. Sensitive to its use by members with varying religious backgrounds, we have ensured the site uses neutral imagery and visuals.

NuBlue suggested many improvements to our initial brief which make the site more logical and accessible for the user. They were also flexible as the project and our ideas evolved. The site has been live since the end of December 2009 and garnered many compliments and a lot of traffic: the investment is paying off already..
