A domain name cannot be ?cancelled? as such.  Unlike Web Hosting, once a domain name has been registered or renewed, that registration is live until the next renew date.

If you want to cancel a domain name, you will need to contact us at least 30 days in advance of the domain renewal date to ensure that we remove the automatic renewal in time.  If a domain has been renewed, the invoice for renewing the domain will stand, as it is a non-refundable purchase.

If a domain name is not renewed, the exact process of what will follow differs according to the company the domain name was registered with.  As a general rule of thumb, after 30 days the domain name will enter a ?Pending deletion? or ?Redemption? period.  This can last for 2 months, during which time the domain is suspended (i.e. it cannot be used for emails, forwarding, hosting etc).  It is common for there to be an extra fee to recover the domain name during this period.  Once this period is over, the domain name will be deleted from the registry and available for purchase.  It is possible to bid for the domain name during this period, in the hope that you can register it as soon as it is deleted.

As we use eNom for our domain name registrations, the expiry timeline is as follows:

Domain passes renewal date without renewal: switched to eNom DNS.  Domain has expired, and cannot be used until it is renewed.

You have 30 days to renew the domain, though eNom are under no obligation to honour this timescale.

You will then have a Grace Period, lasting between 30 ? 42 days, during which the domain can be renewed for the cost of renewing the domain, plus an additional $160 fee.

Following this Grace Period the domain name will be deleted and will be freely available to purchase, providing it hasn?t been bought already!
