What is a Domain Name?
A Domain Name is an address that tells web browsers (i.e. Internet Explorer) where to find your website, and lets an email know where to find your inbox. Once you have bought a Domain Name, you can Host a website and set up email accounts relating to that Domain Name. You can securely register a Domain Name online with NuBlue by clicking here.
How do I know if my Domain is available?
Simply use the ‘Search for Your Domain’ box on the right hand side of the page. You should only type in the Domain Name - the extension is accessible from a drop down menu, next to the ‘Search’ button. There are search boxes on many of the other pages on our site, and you can also check when you register Domains using our secure online order wizard here.
What Domain Names can I register with NuBlue?
NuBlue currently offer the following Domain Names for registration:
.com / .co.uk / .net / .org / .biz / .info / .org.uk / .eu / .tv
There are a large amount of alternative extensions available, and we will register them upon request. Please use our contact form to request a Domain that is not in the list.
How do I register a Domain Name with NuBlue?
To register a Domain Name with NuBlue, you must first make sure that your Domain Name is available to register. You can use the Domain Search box on the right of this page – there are also search boxes located on many of our pages – and you can search during the initial stage of our secure and easy to use online order wizard, located here. Follow the instructions in the wizard to complete the order process. Once this has completed, you will be automatically emailed all the relevant details for your Domain and any associated products (Hosting, for instance).
How long does it take after registering before you can use your Domain?
Your domain will usually be active for administration within 1 hour of your order.
How long can I register a Doman Name for?
Global Domain Names can be registered with us for between 1-10 years. .uk Domain Names, such as a .co.uk or a .org.uk Domain Name, must be registered for 2 years at a time.
Can I register more than one Domain Name?
You can buy as many Domain Names as you require through our secure online order wizard. Please note, however, that there are restrictions to the amount of Domain Names that you can Host on certain packages, and you may need to consider upgrading your Hosting package.
How do I transfer a Domain Name to NuBlue?
Transferring a Domain to NuBlue is very straightforward.
For .com/.net/.org/.info/.biz
In order to transfer of one of these Domain types you need to request the Domain EPP key from your current host. This can be done before or after you have placed your transfer order with NuBlue, and is needed to authorise the transfer. Under ICANN rules, registrars must supply the EPP information within 5 days of receiving a request for it. You then give us the EPP code and we submit a formal transfer request for the domain. The EPP code authenticates our request and your current host agrees to the transfer. The domain is then transferred to NuBlue.
For .co.uk & .org.uk
With one of these domains, you also need to contact your current Hosting Company. This time, you must request that they retag the domain name to the IPS tag ‘ENOM’. As soon as the tag is changed, request a transfer online via our Online Order Wizard or over the phone on 0845 0045 583 – this will complete the Domain Transfer.
All domains must be at least 60-days old to be transferable. Domains that are not yet 60-days old are not transferable between registrars. This is a registry restriction, not a regulation instituted by NuBlue.
Is it free to transfer my Domain?
Yes. NuBlue do not charge a fee for any Domain transfers, in or out. Please bear in mind that registrars often charge an administration fee for transfers, and many Hosting companies often charge for transferring out. So even though we don’t charge for transfers – you might get charged by your old Host.
What are the details for the NuBlue name servers?
If you wish to change the name servers of an existing Domain so that you can use NuBlue Hosting, you need to enter the following name servers. We have listed the IP’s of the name servers as well, as some registrars require this information:
ns.yourdomainname.extension - 87.237.56.179
ns2.yourdomainname.extension - 87.237.56.177
If you are using our PHP 5 enabled server, you will have to use the following details instead:
ns3.nublue.co.uk - 77.240.14.225
ns4.nublue.co.uk - 77.240.14.226
Changing the name servers can take up to 24 hours to propagate, so it is best to make these changes during low impact timescales (for instance, the start of the weekend, or the evening).
Is it possible to forward my Domain to another Hosting account?
Yes. Domains can be forwarded to any Hosting account you require. They can also be forwarded to other websites (but you might need to ask the owner of the website first!).
Is it possible to buy a Domain without Hosting?
Yes. Without any related email accounts or Hosting, a Domain Name simply reserves that address for the person who owns it. It is also possible to use the Domain Name to forward any web browsers or emails to other websites or accounts you may already have.
What can I do if the Domain Name I want is already registered?
In this case, you will have to register the Domain with a different extension. Otherwise, all you can do is contact the current registrant of the Domain Name, and see if they are open to offers for the control of the Domain. NuBlue will not make any offers for Domains that have already been registered – we will only register available Domains, or accept transfers of Domains that you own the registration for.
Do you charge VAT?
Yes – VAT is charged on all Hosting and Domain purchases. All advertised prices, except where specifically marked, are excluding VAT. Our UK VAT registration number is 865 6930 80.
