Nublue’s Cross Bay Walk for Morecambe Bay Search and Rescue

Stefan Posted by

On Sunday 9th August members of the Nublue team will be marching along Morecambe Bay with a small army of local friends and families. Together we’ll be taking part in the annual summer Cross Bay Walk and raising as much money as we can for the vital work of Bay Search and Rescue.

Led by the Queen’s Guide to the Sands, Cedric Robinson, The Cross Bay Walk will take us across six to eight miles of the bay’s most scenic stretches, from Arnside to Kent’s Bank. With three to four hours of gentle walking involved on (hopefully!) a beautiful sunny day, it’s a great opportunity for the local community to get together and raise funds for this fantastic cause.

Bay Search and Rescue

Founded in 1999, Bay Search and Rescue is a team of highly trained volunteers who save lives in Morecambe Bay and the surrounding area. It’s a tricky stretch of coastline that needs its own expert Guide to the Sands, after all – an ever-changing landscape where visitors can and do get into trouble once the tide creeps in around the sands.

Bay Search and Rescue are always on call to help people who run into difficulty, rolling out in bright orange Hagglunds amphibious all-terrains to navigate the sands and deal with emergencies around the clock. There have already been five incidents since mid-June this year – proof of the invaluable work of this charity, which deserves to be better known and better funded for the service it provides.

The charity is also a crucial part of the region’s overall public safety network, working with HM Coastguard, North West Ambulance Service, Cumbria and Lancashire Fire & Rescue and local police. Unlike these bodies though, the charity relies on public donations to do what it does. That’s why we want to help – and why fundraising for the Cross Bay Walk means so much to us.

We need your support!

We really want this to be the year that Bay Search and Rescue are blown away by the amount of public support they receive. Please help us to help these local heroes save more lives by clicking through to our JustGiving page, and sponsoring the Nublue team when they take part in next month’s Cross Bay Walk.

Our current fundraising target for Bay Search and Rescue’s volunteers is £250 – though it goes without saying that we’d love to smash it and make this a Cross Bay Walk to remember. We’d also like to say a huge thank you in advance to each and every one of you who donates to sponsor our team!

Stay tuned for our update once we’ve walked the walk – along with news on our final fundraising total!
