The story of Nublue

Nublue started as a two-man gig with a simple aim: to put the human touch back into web design and hosting. To be the big-city agency outside the big cities. Michael Ashworth designed; his brother Tom built. It worked. But soon demand was getting too high for two guys to handle on their own. Bringing together all the expertise and startup money they could, in 2005 the brothers set up shop in InfoLab21 at Lancaster Uni. Nublue became a team. The more we all worked together, the clearer it became: we weren’t just graduates obsessed with awesome design and top-notch hosting. We wanted to bridge the gaps between the coding nerds, the design geeks and everyone else – our clients.

We got to the heart of our customers’ online problems. Slow loading speeds. Outdated design. Patchy service and low footfall. Or sites doing so well they’d outgrown their server and needed something bespoke. We weren’t just asking our clients what they needed, but why. And with a great team of truly talented people, the how came pretty easy. Best of all, our clients loved the results as much as we did.

In 2008 we won the Outstanding Achievement award at the Interactive Media Awards, and again in 2010. A year later we were named Creative Business of the Year at the BIBAs, and Digital Business of the Year at the Red Rose Awards. Proud? Yes. Done? Nope.

In 2013 we gained our ISO 9001 quality management certificate. It meant a smoother process for our clients. It put a stamp on our reputation for results that brought in the wow and pushed out the meh. Our team was outgrowing our home at InfoLab, and in the same year we moved to our new office in the heart of Lancaster. Since then our team’s grown; our client list too. But our approach hasn’t changed – we listen to your story.

We’ve stuck to putting people and quality first ever since we began ten years ago. We’re driven by the thought of building and powering awesome sites for great clients, and we love every second of what we do.

Few companies are ISO 9001 quality management certified. We are. Awarded by the British Standards Institute, it means we’re committed to constant improvement and keeping our client data secure. It means that nothing is left to chance, that the deadline really is the deadline – and that the price you’re quoted is the price you pay.
