Here we are, ladies and gentlemen. As we approach the end of Movember we can look back on a month of fine work raising funds for our chosen charities, from the worldwide Movember Foundation to local organisations like CancerCare.

Nublue’s running total stands at £250 raised for CancerCare, putting us halfway to our £500 target. But the month isn’t over yet, and there’s still everything to mo for.

CancerCare – helping local people affected by cancer

With the money we’ve raised so far, CancerCare in Lancaster can provide eight one-to-one professional counselling sessions to help local people affected by cancer. For every extra £30 we raise we can support another person too – which is why we need your help.

Every year CancerCare in Lancaster helps more than 1500 people in North Lancashire and South Lakeland, at a cost of £1 million. Almost 85% of this amount comes from donations, so every pound you give really does count.

There’s still time to donate to this great cause if you haven’t already. To help support Cancer Care’s work with local cancer patients and their families, click here for our fundraising page at JustGiving.com, or just text NUBL50 £5 to 70070.

CancerCare’s Tash Bash

To celebrate the end of Movember CancerCare will be holding a fundraising Tash Bash tomorrow night from 7:30pm, taking place at Lancaster’s Penny Street Bridge. Along with live music from The Templebys, moustache face painting and the chance to have your photo taken in CancerCare’s photo booth, there’ll also be prizes for the best and worst moustaches of the month – with award categories including Ultimate Mo, Best Team Mo, Most Creative Mo, Miss Mo and Messiest Mo.

People attending the Tash Bash will also have the chance to be free of their Movember tash during the evening, with a professional shave by Lancaster’s own Men’s Room barbers, who’ve been sponsoring CancerCare.

Funding research to beat cancer

Beyond funding support and raising awareness around male health issues, Movember also plays a more active role. As a direct result of funds raised for the Movember Foundation, earlier this month we saw a breakthrough in prostate cancer research.

Led by Professor Robert Bristow at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in Toronto, the research has revealed that men possess a genetic “fingerprint” in cancer cells that can tell specialists whether the cells have moved beyond the prostate gland. The result? More tailored treatment plans for men with prostate cancer, meaning improved cure rates in patients with aggressive prostate cancer, and a reduction in the risk of overtreating patients whose prostate cancer isn’t aggressive.

It’s not too late to donate

We’ve still got a couple of days left in Movember, so there’s still time to donate to this great cause if you haven’t already. Movember isn’t just a novelty – it’s helping to raise millions and changing the face of men’s health. To join us in supporting CancerCare, or to add your donation, just click here for our fundraising page at JustGiving.com, text NUBL50 £5 to 70070, or show your support on our Facebook page.
